the things that make me wonder…

cats

What do cats think about when they are awake?

What do they dream about?

How is it that when a new problem confronts me, something will appear in my life, often popping in from nowhere in particular, and guide me towards a solution.

Why is it that first impressions are almost always spot on?

The millions of tiny choices we make all the time, and all the various repercussions they could, or do have, on our lives.

How what we think about ourselves is actualised in who we are and how we make our way in the world.

The impact of childhood and upbringing on our adult selves.

The different sets of values people live by, and how these are justified.

When engaged in intellectual tasks, why some people like to work in silence while others can work while music is playing.

The invisible, utterly mysterious workings of our minds.

The most utterly mysterious of the mind’s workings: creativity.

How does a character just pop into a story without a great deal of forethought or planning beforehand?

How lovely it is that people are captured by narrative.

How narratives have the power to unite us – no matter how different we may be.

The way words on a page have the ability to completely bore me. So much so that text turns into gibberish that makes it as far as my eyes, but is denied entry into my brain.

The way some words make me come alive, allow me to soar high above everything, thrill me into new realisations, move me to tears. Reshape my understandings of my own self.

The delights that can be found in seemingly banal everyday moments.

How finding the perfect job in life is as or more important than finding the perfect partner.

The delights found in work partnerships and relationships.

If my life were a musical, what kind of musical would it be, and what would be its best numbers?

How much more interesting life is when you ask yourself questions like this last one.

How many people live their lives with few or no questions at all.
